MESI mTABLET SPIRO module

MESI mTABLET SPIRO uses pneumotachograph technology which calculates the airflow by measuring the pressure difference between pressure inside the mouthpiece and ambiental pressure. If we combine this technology with a self-calibration function (1/s calibration) and pre calibrated mouthpieces, the user can ensure the best accuracy of the measurement.  

Our spirometer cannot be manually calibrated, instead we can offer the option to check the calibration accuracy using a 3L syringe. Different healthcare environments have different requirements regarding check-ups of the equipment they are using, and this option is not necessary for successful operation of MESI mTABLET SPIRO, as it is a self­ calibrating spirometer. 

Local markets should know which prediction model they need to use. This depends on their local (national) guidelines. The prediction models should fit the population being tested. We now have robust all-age reference equations (eg, GLI 2012) that appropriately describe the range of values observed in healthy individuals. The Global Lung Initiative (GLI) 2012 enabled the modeling of spirometric parameters from a very large sample collected in several ethnic groups (Caucasians n=57,395, African Americans n=3,545, and North n=4,992 and South East Asians n=B,255) using modern statistical techniques to establish continuous equations for all ages and in many countries. 

If the user is unsure of which prediction model to use, we recommend they select one of the GLI 2012 options. The use of a wrong prediction model is one of the most frequent issues our support team gets reported. 

The Z-score indicates how many standard deviations a measured value is from predicted according to the population included in the prediction model study. Z-Scores are colour coded based on the reference scale of the selected prediction model. Red means "bad" (considerably below the average of the studied population), yellow means "borderline" (below the average of the studied population) and the green means "good" (around the average of the studied population).

The calibration code is important because every batch can have a slightly different circumference of the mouthpiece, a different length, the membranes in the end could be thicker, the plastic can be thicker... If you just type in some random code, the device will notify you that the code is not correct. 

If you don't change the code and you are using a new batch of mouthpieces with a different code, the device will not know which mouthpiece you are using, and it will not calibrate accordingly. This kind of responsibility should be taken by the user, so each time they open a new box, they should change the calibration code if it is different from the previous one.

A grey exclamation mark indicates a manoeuvre quality warning. The warnings follow the ATS/ERS 2019 criteria and are intended to provide further instructions to patients for better performing the manoeuvres. The results with the quality warning are still viable; it just means that they can be improved.

Hesitation - Instruct a patient to start blowing with full force once the manoeuvre is started.

Lazy blow - Instruct a patient to blow with full force.

Cough - Repeat the manoeuvre.

Early termination - Instruct the patient to blow until the 6-second timer does not turn green.
