Diverse integration options with the MESI mTABLET

The medical field is associated with lots of work and documents. Prescriptions, patient files, ECG prints, medical opinions … all this takes time to create, file, find, copy, transport and deliver. The digital age provides fantastic options to accelerate all this, saving you precious hours.

The MESI mTABLET was created to offer not only fast and easy diagnostic measurements, but also their easy management and connection with the software you already use. With various levels of integration of the MESI mTABLET record software into your EHR system, it adapts to your work and makes it as effective as possible.

In this blog you will learn:

Why is EHR integration important in the development of digital devices?

Digital device development should aim to solve the following healthcare problems:

  • Doctors and nurses are overworked, with some spending more than 20 hours weekly on administration and paperwork.
  • Manual entries into paper files can result in mistakes like entries under a wrong name, and reports can get lost or damaged.
  • Scanning paper results into the system requires additional work. [1]

A stand-alone diagnostic measurement device is not effective if it is not easily connectible with the other solutions that the customer uses.

A medical device producer needs to provide digital integration with the medical workflow and its environment. This includes easy filing, retrieval, copying and sharing of the diagnostic results.

How does the MESI mTABLET help with healthcare digitalization needs?

The MESI mTABLET solution provides diverse diagnostic measurements, instant result storage and clinical support apps on one device. Its aims are to:

  • shorten the diagnostic measurement process,
  • reduce human error with automated data entry,
  • enable result viewing from anywhere,
  • automatically store the measurement results into patient files,
  • print out only the necessary reports,
  • instantly retrieve and share the result for a second opinion.

Different users have different needs in terms of their level of digitalization. Some are fully digitalized medical institutions using EHR systems. On the other hand, some small practices have only started using digital solutions. Blaž Bulić, senior support agent at MESI, explains the different MESI mTABLET integration levels and their workflow effect in the following video [1]:

The MESI mTABLET offers the following integration levels with your system:

  • Level 1: MESI mRECORDS
  • Level 2: MESI mTABLET Print Service
  • Level 3: Worklist integration
  • Level 4: Fully custom solution

In other words: the integration levels range from the digital record system automatically offered by every MESI mTABLET to a fully custom solution for your medical practice. Each level offers all the benefits of the previous levels as well as additional advantages.

MESI mTABLET integration level 1: MESI mRECORDS

The MESI mTABLET is a system for diagnostic measurements. All the measurements are saved into the MESI mTABLET Archive. A copy of all your measurements is also instantly saved into the free MESI mRECORDS software, which comes with every MESI mTABLET regardless of what diagnostic module you use. All you need to access MESI mRECORDS is a computer with an internet connection.

This level of integration is intended for those who do not use any other EHR software, but would like to manage their digital MESI mTABLET measurements in a smart and secure manner. In this, the different working groups and different levels of authorisation can be created.

The advantages of MESI mRECORDS are the following:

  • No additional software installation or costs
  • Print and download measurements as PDF
  • Additional print layouts depending on the measurement type (e.g. rhythm and interval with the MESI mTABLET ECG)
  • Advanced result analysis options
  • Patient importer into MESI mRECORDS: up to 700 patients at once with a CSV file
  • Creation of different working groups and different authorisation levels (doctors, nurses)
  • Sharing of measurements by email with a click of a button [1]

A detailed article on MESI mRECORDS is available here. Check out all the functions it offers and how to use it to your optimum advantage.

MESI mTABLET integration level 2: MESI mTABLET Print Service

The MESI mTABLET Print Service can be downloaded from the MESI website. It is perfect for those who would like to use their MESI mTABLET not only for measurements, but also for direct printing from the MESI mTABLET. In this way, there is no need to access MESI mRECORDS on a computer in order to print.

The advantages of the MESI mTABLET Print Service are the following:

  • Print directly from the MESI mTABLET
  • Store PDF measurement reports to a computer or server with one click only
  • Automatic and customisable PDF name generation
  • On-premise solution without the need for internet connection (securely behind firewall)
  • Support for any printer and format
  • No additional costs [1]

MESI mTABLET integration level 3: Worklist integration

If you already use an EHR solution to store your patient data and their diagnostic exams, the MESI mTABLET can easily be connected with your system. This is possible through the Worklist app. You can easily order the Worklist app from MESI mSTORE on your MESI mTABLET.

The Worklist app enables you the following workflow:

  • The doctor uses their EHR system to request an exam – for example, a MESI mTABLET ECG measurement to be performed by a nurse. The request is visible in the Worklist app.
  • The nurse opens the Worklist app, sees the request and performs the measurement.
  • The report and the results are automatically sent to the EHR into the patient’s file for the doctor to review.

The doctor or a nurse can also send an entire list of patients scheduled for measurements into the Worklist app, along with the measurement type(s) required. When opening the Worklist app, the nurse can see the measurement requests, the names of the patients, the name of the doctor who requested the measurement as well as the measurement type. Of course, any MESI mTABLET diagnostic module can be used in the process.

Currently, our integration supports HL7, GDT, DICOM, JSON and XML. MESI works directly with your EHR provider and IT to integrate these solutions. [1]

MESI mTABLET integration level 4: Fully custom solution

Integration Level 4 is a completely custom solution. It is mostly used for large projects, e.g. for integrating the use of the MESI mTABLET for an entire region or country. However, no project is too big or too small to benefit from custom workflow optimisation.

Some ideas how to optimise your exam workflow with custom additions:

  • Crucial data input through patient history
Your patient information can be uploaded to MESi mRECORDS from your EHR. Then, a built-in consultation function can be used to further discuss the exam on that basis. Drawing on patient history, the MESI mTABLET can also notify the nurse of any specific condition to consider while performing the measurement.
  • Easy patient identification
You can enable input and output of patient identification data directly on the MESI mTABLET. This is especially handy if you already use electronic patient identification such as digital health insurance cards.
  • Instant patient information retrieval
Getting patient information from e.g. a hospital server can take place instantly by using solutions like barcode readers, NFC and smart cards.
  • Automatic user profile generation
Patient admission can be a long process for your staff. It can only take minutes for the admission nurse to create a patient profile when using a custom digital solution.
  • More speed, less paper
Custom applications for the MESI mTABLET can effectively help with your patient administration, creation of prescriptions, customised layouts and views, etc. [1]

These are only a few examples of what is possible with effective integration of digital measurements and the digital environment where they take place. In collaboration with your EHR providers, MESI can develop custom solutions tailored to your needs.
